Night Float Curriculum

Night Float generally begins at 5pm and ends after sign-out at 6am on Sun-Thurs nights.  In addition, residents have one half day session per week in our Family Medicine Center to maintain continuity with their patients. Hours are adjusted as needed to comply with ACGME duty hour regulations.

The overall goal of the Night Float curriculum is to train family medicine residents to provide independent care for common medical problems requiring hospital admission and to utilize appropriate consultation with specialists when additional assistance is required.

PGY-1 level residents have immediate in-house supervision available by a PGY-2 or PGY-3 level resident at all times. There is also an on-call Family Medicine Faculty Physician to review admissions and provide assistance to residents while on the Night Float rotation.
